When SSDM was a very young company, Kelsey Fish worked as an account executive here, writing content and providing SEO support for SSDM clients. We are delighted that she is back, as Client Experience Manager.
On the move
Kelsey has been on the move since she was a child. Born in Melrose, Massachusetts, her family moved to Centerville, Ohio, then to Germantown, Tennessee, then to Plano, Texas.
The move to Michigan was the final one, and Kelsey graduated from Lake Orion High, where she developed an interest in marketing, as event chair and manager of various student leadership promotions, exercising strategic branding and creativity.
The marketing “pull”
As a student at the Farmer School of Business at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Kelsey says she enjoyed the marketing classes so much, she felt “the pull” to make marketing her major.
Right after college, she started her own marketing company – Kelsey Fish Creative – to help small businesses establish and grow their online presence, and she carried this expertise through to her position at SSDM from January to December 2014, as SSDM was establishing itself as a premier SEO agency.
Expanding expertise
Taking her skills to another venerable Detroit institution, Kelsey spent the next six years at Hour Media, where she managed ad traffic and helped the publisher develop important production processes. She moved on to an account services and project management role, supporting Hour Media’s client-based custom publications and e-newsletters.
But, during her time at SSDM, Kelsey had developed a fondness for the agency and followed its progress through blogs and other sources, maintaining contact with the partners, so when she felt the need for new challenges, she also began following the careers page of the SSDM website.
Client experience management
In the six years since she was last at SSDM, the agency has grown significantly and although the role has always existed in one form or another, Kelsey’s will officially serve as Client Experience Manager, expanding on her talents and expertise, as she will manage client projects, expectations and timelines.
The team is now 20 strong, but the personal nature of the agency is still the same, she says. While away but following SSDM, Kelsey says she was struck by its customer-centric attitude and the collaborative nature of the team.
Fun facts
As a former track team member and cross-country runner, Kelsey loves being active, walking every day, hiking, boating and adventuring with her new hubby, who also loves to bike. Kelsey likes to read, cook healthy meals and is a big fan of smoothies. She starts every morning with a cup of green tea.
But she has some guilty pleasures as well, indulging in a glass of wine and charcuterie while watching The Bachelorette. As the first child, she earned an interesting nickname from her mom, who still lovingly calls her “Queenie.”
Although she grew up in northern Oakland county, a love of the water has led the Baumgartens to settle on the east side, where they can easily slip into Lake St. Clair to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful Michigan sunsets.
